Many people have been using tanning booths for years in order to maintain a year round allover tan, but with more and more research coming out on the dangers of tanning and the risk of skin cancer some are now turning to alternatives to the dangerous skin damaging practice.
One of the choices people are now making is to go to a salon that offers spray tanning also known as sunless tanning. There are creams and lotions called bronzers that will give you an artificial tan as well but the spray tan seems to give better results and less streaking. There are manufacturers now that offer spray tans that you can apply yourself.
Regardless of the method you choose there are a few basic steps to follow to ensure that you get the best results possible.
First off, you should exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin. If you apply a tanning agent to dead skin it will just fall off and leave light spots in its place. Afterwards apply a good moisturizer to keep your skin moist and ready to tan.
Secondly, you always want to wear gloves if you are applying the tanning agent yourself to avoid getting the dreaded orange palms which are a dead give away that your tan is fake. Also, apply lighter coats on the joints of your fingers, your knees, and your elbows as these areas will appear darker if you do not. The same applies to your feet.
After applying a spray tan you will want to use a towel to remove any excess that may drip and run. Don't wiggle around a lot after applying the self tanning agent, remaining as motionless as possible will help to ensure an even tan.
Remember that tanning agents aren't prejudiced. They will tan clothes just as well as they do your skin, so be careful when choosing what you wear afterwards. You should choose something dark and also maybe something you don't particularly care for until the excess is worn off. |
